Unbelievable Qingdao Getaway: Hanting Hotel Hai'er Road Luxury! – A Review Steeped in Reality (and Maybe a Few Too Many Dumplings)
Okay, alright, settle in. This isn't your polished, sterile travel blog post. This is me, fresh from a (mostly delightful) stay at the Hanting Hotel Hai'er Road Luxury in Qingdao. Prepare for a ramble, some serious opinions, and maybe a craving for seafood. Buckle up, buttercups!
First Impressions & Accessibility - Uphill Battle…Literally
So, right off the bat, the name Hanting Hotel Hai'er Road Luxury practically screams "high-roller," doesn't it? And hey, it is fancy-ish. The lobby sparkles, the staff are (mostly) friendly…but let's be real, the access…well, it felt a little more uphill than luxurious.
Accessibility: Listed as "Facilities for disabled guests" - Well, that's a broad brush stroke, isn't it? Truthfully, navigating this place with any mobility issues…hoo boy. Expect some ramps (sometimes awkwardly placed), elevators that are slow enough to contemplate your life choices in, and a general sense that the architect prioritized aesthetics over ease of movement. I'm a relatively able-bodied person, thank goodness. I just hope folks with mobility aids can deal with some obstacles.
Getting Around: (And I mean getting around). The Airport transfer was a godsend after the loooong flight. Car park [free of charge] is a huge plus, especially if you're road-tripping around Shandong province. Also, taxi service is always readily available. This is all fine!
Internet Access - A Lifeline (Mostly)
- Internet, Internet [LAN], Internet services, Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!, Wi-Fi in public areas, Wi-Fi for special events: Okay, okay, let's be clear. They've got the Wi-Fi situation covered. It's basically everywhere. In your room (thank goodness, the Internet access – wireless was a godsend), in the lobby, by the pool…you get the picture. The Internet access – LAN was also good. It worked, and it allowed me to update my social media and stalk my friends relentlessly during my time there!
Cleanliness and Safety - Smells Like…Clean!
Look, in the post-pandemic world, cleanliness is king (or queen, if you prefer). The Hanting Hotel Hai'er Road Luxury takes this seriously. I saw the Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer everywhere, and the Staff trained in safety protocol. The room itself seemed spotless.
Rooms sanitized between stays: Absolutely appreciated. Made me feel a bit more at ease.
Anti-viral cleaning products: Good!
Room sanitization opt-out available: Honestly, I didn't see this, but it's in the list.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking - Food, Glorious Food (With Caveats)
Alright, this is where things get interesting.
Restaurants: The hotel boasts several, including Asian cuisine in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant, a Vegetarian restaurant (bless!), a Coffee shop, and a Poolside bar.
A la carte in restaurant, Alternative meal arrangement, Asian breakfast, Breakfast service, Buffet in restaurant, Coffee/tea in restaurant, Desserts in restaurant, Happy hour, Salad in restaurant, Snack bar, Soup in restaurant, Western breakfast, Western cuisine in restaurant: You're spoiled for choice, folks. The Breakfast [buffet] was a decent spread, but the coffee tasted like lukewarm dishwater - every single day. However, I'll take lukewarm coffee for the amazing Asian Breakfast!
Room service [24-hour]: Bless. After a long day of sightseeing and chasing down dumplings, I happily availed myself of the 24-hour room service. I ordered a bowl of the soup (soup in restaurant), and a coffee.
Bottle of water: Always a welcome sight.
Sanitized kitchen and tableware items: I liked my chances.
Things to do - And Ways to Relax (Maybe Over-Promised?)
Things to do: The hotel is a decent base for exploring Qingdao.
Pool with view, Swimming pool [outdoor]: The Swimming pool was a highlight. It isn’t the biggest pool in the world, but the view was pretty great, and it wasn't overly crowded. Pure bliss!
Spa, Spa/sauna, Sauna, Steamroom: I spent some time in the spa, it’s true. My experience was…okay. The surroundings were nice, but the treatment itself wasn't anything to write home about.
Body scrub, Body wrap, Foot bath, Massage: (I tried a massage.) I was left feeling…underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, exactly, but it wasn't the life-changing, stress-melting experience I'd hoped for. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Fitness center, Gym/fitness: Didn’t try it, so I can’t comment.
Services and Conveniences - A Mixed Bag
Daily housekeeping: Flawless. The room was always sparkling.
Concierge: Really helpful. Always eager to assist.
Food delivery: A lifesaver if you're lazy (like me).
Dry cleaning, Ironing service, Laundry service: Convenient, but pricey.
Cash withdrawal, Currency exchange: Useful.
Convenience store: Always a plus.
Meeting/banquet facilities, Business facilities, Audio-visual equipment for special events, Indoor venue for special events, Outdoor venue for special events, Projector/LED display, Wi-Fi for special events, Xerox/fax in business center: All the business-y stuff seemed well-equipped.
Doorman, Luggage storage, Safety deposit boxes: Standard, and appreciated.
Air conditioning in public area, Elevator: Essential during Qingdao’s humid summers.
Invoice provided: Always a good thing for expense reports.
Smoking area: At least there is one.
For the Kids - A Family-Friendly Vibe?
- Babysitting service, Family/child friendly, Kids facilities, Kids meal: I saw a few families with young children, but I didn't delve too deeply.
Available in all rooms – The Nitty Gritty.
Okay, let's get down to the room itself which was… decent.
Air conditioning: Essential.
Additional toilet: Nah.
Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Complimentary tea, Mini bar, Coffee/tea maker, Free bottled water, Slippers, Wake-up service, Towels, Toiletries: All good, all expected.
Desk, Hair dryer, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Luggage rack, Mirror, Reading light, Refrigerator, Scale, Seating area, Smoke detector, Sofa, Soundproofing, Telephone, Umbrella, Window that opens: Competent. The Mirror was well-placed for pre-dinner primping. Soundproofing was decent, which is a must.
Blackout curtains, Carpeting, Closet, Extra long bed, High floor, In-room safe box, Internet access – wireless, Linens, Non-smoking, On-demand movies, Private bathroom, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed, Soundproofing, Toiletries, Visual alarm, Wake-up service, Wi-Fi [free], Window that opens: The Blackout curtains were a godsend.
Interconnecting room(s) available: Good for families.
Satellite/cable channels: The TV was fine!
Safety/security feature: Always appreciated.
Alarm clock: Necessary for a full-time sleeper.
Bathrobes: Cozy!
Safety and Security - A Feeling of Security (Mostly)
- CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property, Fire extinguisher, Front desk [24-hour], Non-smoking rooms, Room decorations, Safety/security feature, Security [24-hour], Smoke alarms: Safety measures!
The Verdict – Worth It? (With Reservations)
Overall, the Hanting Hotel Hai'er Road Luxury is a decent option if you're visiting Qingdao. It's clean, the staff are generally helpful, and the location is convenient. However, don't expect true luxury. Expect some room for improvement. The spa experience was a disappointment. But I would recommend it for its accessibility, and the amazing dumplings and the overall feeling of security it delivered in the face of this world’s uncertainty and the dangers of travel. In my opinion, I have enjoyed my vacation here!

Okay, buckle up buttercups, because this isn't your grandma's itinerary! This is my Hanting Hotel Qingdao adventure, and trust me, it's gonna be a wild ride. Forget sterile bullet points; we're diving headfirst into the glorious, chaotic mess that is travel.
Hanting Hotel Qingdao Hai'er Road - A Qingdao Odyssey (or, How I Survived on Instant Noodles)
Day 1: Arrival! (And the Great Chopstick Debacle)
- 14:00: Arrived in Qingdao! Jet lag? Oh, honey, that’s just a suggestion. More like a full-body hangover from the plane food. Found the Hanting on Hai'er Road. It looked…like a hotel. Clean enough. The lobby smelled suspiciously of…cleaning products. Made a mental note to avoid touching any surfaces.
- 15:00: Check-in. The staff were… well, efficient. No smiles, just nods. My Mandarin is terrible, so lots of pointing and frantic miming. Success! Key card secured. Phew.
- 15:30: Room. Standard. Basic. Okay! My luggage? Still waiting. Probably somewhere in the bowels of the airport. Patience, young Padawan. (Spoiler alert: it arrived at…well, you’ll see.)
- 16:00: Hunger pangs. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant. (My research skills are top-tier, I swear.) Found a tiny convenience store across the street. Stocked up on instant noodles (the staple of my life now, apparently), some suspiciously sweet green tea, and what I think was a kind of biscuit.
- 16:30 - 17:00: The Chopstick Wars. Okay, let me tell you about this. I’ve eaten with chopsticks before. I thought I was relatively proficient. I wrestled with those plastic torture devices for a good twenty minutes, trying to get a single noodle into my mouth. Fail. Spectacular, noodle-flying fail. Eventually, I just gave up and slurped straight from the bowl. Humiliating. Delicious, but humiliating.
- 17:00: Luggage officially lost. Okay, meltdown averted. For now. Managed to buy some basic essentials at a nearby store. They don't have my size, but who cares!.
- 19:00: Walk around the neighborhood. The city is already growing to me, the lights, the street food, and sounds make me think it's a dream.
- 21:00: Exhausted. Sleep. Pray for luggage.
Day 2: Exploring Qingdao! (and the Persistent Smell of Fish)
- 08:00: Wake up. Surprisingly, no luggage. More instant noodles for breakfast. Seriously considering taking up residence in this convenience store.
- 09:00: Determined to see some sights! Decided to brave a taxi. Used a translation app to explain where I wanted to go (Zhanqiao Pier, obviously). The driver, bless his heart, just looked at me, sighed, and pointed. Nailed it!
- 09:30-10:30: Zhanqiao Pier. Gorgeous! Absolutely stunning. The sea, the sky, the wind in my hair… and the distinct, pervasive smell of fish. You get used to it, I guess. Took a million photos. Obligatory tourist shots.
- 10:30-12:00: Shopping on Zhongshan Road. Too many people, too much stuff, but definitely entertaining. Saw a woman selling…what looked like deep-fried scorpion. Nope. Hard pass. Found some souvenirs. Got ripped off. But hey, that's part of the experience, right?
- 12:00 - 13:00: Lunch on a street stall. Delicious local food, can't remember what the name is. Lots of pointing. Lots of smiling. Successfully avoided scorpion.
- 13:00 - 16:00: Beer Museum and Tsingtao Brewery. (Okay, maybe it was slightly more than just one.) The brewery tour was fascinating. The beer? Glorious. Absolutely glorious. By the time I staggered out, I was feeling… very friendly.
- 16:00: The Luggage! Finally. Hallelujah! Tears of joy (and beer). Immediately spent the rest of the day reorganizing, throwing away the temporary replacement clothes, and then collapsing back into bed.
- 19:00: Dinner. Tried a fancy local place! Made a mistake and ordered something incredibly spicy. Swallowed my tears anyway.
- 21:00: Sleep. Deep, beer-infused sleep.
Day 3: The Beach! (and the Dreaded Seasnail)
- 09:00: Another morning, another instant noodle breakfast. Starting to feel like I should invest in stock.
- 10:00: Time for the famous Silver Beach. The waves were rough, the wind was strong, but it was beautiful.
- 10:30 - 14:00: Beach time! Sunbathing (carefully, of course, with copious amounts of sunscreen), walking along the shore. Tried (and failed) to build a sandcastle.
- 14:00: The seasnails. Okay, I warned you this was a messy itinerary. This happened. I stepped on…something. It crunched. It was a seasnail. I let out a shriek that probably echoed across the entire beach. The locals stared. I may have started crying. It was definitely… unpleasant.
- 14:30: Bought a delicious local ice cream to soothe my trauma.
- 15:00: Back to the hotel. Sore feet from walking, and tired from my seasnail experience.
- 19:00: Dinner at a noodle bar.
- 20:00: Relaxing time at the hotel. Watched a Korean drama show.
- 22:00: Sleep.
Day 4: Packing! (and Sweet, Sweet Departure)
- 08:00: Wake Up. Another instant noodle breakfast.
- 09:00: Attempted to pack. Everything I own is a mess. Failed.
- 10:00: One last walk around the area.
- 11:00: Checking out of the hotel.
- 12:00: Transfer to the airport.
- 14:00: Boarding the plane. Goodbye Qingdao. Goodbye instant noodles. Goodbye (maybe) the lingering smell of fish.
- 22:00: Back home. Tired, happy, and with a suitcase full of memories (and probably a few clinging grains of sand). Worth it. Absolutely worth it.
This is just a taste of my trip, the real experience included more spontaneous adventures, moments of frustration, and pure, unadulterated joy. Travel is messy. Travel is imperfect. And, in my humble opinion, that’s what makes it so damn good. Now, where's my next adventure…?
